CeilidhSoc doesn’t run itself! We need you to help!
Just like any other student society, we elect a committee every year who do the basic jobs in the Society such as President, Treasurer, Music Officer or House Manager. You can find out about who is doing these jobs currently on our committee page.
You don’t need to be on the committee to help out. We are always looking for enthusiastic people who want to get a bit more involved, whether it be on a regular or one-off basis. If you would like to do more than just dance, then here are some ways you can help make CeilidhSoc even better:
Help us to publicise our ceilidhs!
- Follow us on @CeilidhSoc and retweet our ceilidh tweets
- If you tweet about our ceilidhs then include the hash tag #CeilidhSoc so we can trend 🙂
- Like us on Facebook and share our ceilidh events with your friends
- If you take pictures at our ceilidhs then tag Sheffield CeilidhSoc and it will appear on our public Facebook page
- If you enjoy us then tell your friends!
Setting Up and Packing Away
Ceilidhs take a lot of work to set up and pack away. The equipment needs to be transported from the Student Union and taken to the Edge. Then it is all carried upstairs to the High Tor room where we hold our ceilidhs. Then it all needs to be set up under the guidance of Rich (Equipment Officer) and Chris (House Manager). A sound check of the band is done and then we’re ready to ceilidh! After the Ceilidh the opposite happens. The equipment needs packing up and taking downstairs so it can be taken back to the union. The quicker this happens, the better. We all want to go off and after party somewhere so everyone is eager to get this done quickly and efficiently.
This all takes time and any extra people can make a big difference. If you want to help out then ask Rich or one of the other committee and we’ll add you to our list of helpers or simply send us an email using the link on the right hand side. Nominated helpers are rewarded with free ceilidh passes so it’s a great way to have a good time and save a bit of money.
Fancy helping out with sound-engineering and mixing the ceilidh sound. Talk to Rich about helping out on this. We offer a great experience of live sound engineering scenario.
Website & Publicity
Are you good at graphic design or are a cartoonist you fancy doing some graphics for the website or are promotional material then it could be a good way to see have your work show.
Do you fancy help writing content for the website? Got a burning desire to express how you feel about Morris Dancing or maybe a cool new technique for right hand star? Right an article for the website! See Steve our web officer.
Are you a keen photographer? If you’ve got the right equipment and fancy doing some photography then talk to Steve our current Webmaster. We always need people to take high quality pictures at ceilidhs so they can be put on the Facebook page & the website.
If at the end of the year you decide you would like to get involved then why not go for a committee position next year! We hold our AGM around the start of the summer term.
Of course the main way to get involved is by coming to our events, playing music and having good time.
